SINGAPORE SLING

Originally created at Raffles Hotel in Singapore, the Sling has strangely morphed into cocktail with everything in it, as bartenders combine lime, orange juice, pineapple juice and grenadine, among other ingredients. The original is a much more sophisticated, subtle blend: light in color and taste, it is a perfect summer sipper.

In a cocktail shaker filled with ice, add 1 oz gin, 1/2 oz freshly squeezed lemon juice, and 1/2 oz simple syrup (see recipe below).

Shake sharply and strain into a Sling or highball glass filled with ice. Top with soda water and float 1/2 oz cherry brandy on top. Garnish with cherry.

  • Simple syrup can be made by mixing equal parts white sugar and boiling water. Stir to dissolve sugar and chill. It can be kept in the fridge for week.
